"His beat-heavy pop is reminiscent of turntable boff Kid Koala, if only for its sense of mischief, sense of space and immaculate timing... Someone, somewhere, is going to be making a bunch of money from this music."
- Everett True, NME
Charles Du Cane is an electronic songwriter/producer from Tasmania, Australia. His songs borrow heavily from long-forgotten vignettes that litter Australia's history, rural blues from the Deep South and the spoken ramblings of Bukowski or Kerouac. Sometimes he lapses into a scrawny Presleyan growl, at times a husky bark reminiscent of Joy Division, and sometimes his voice simply sinks into silence beneath the pile-drive synth lines that surround it. Wrap it all up in his distinctively tightly chunky, sample-based production and the result is one hell of a record.
His second full-length album, Poets, is released in July 2009. The album, written in India throughout 2008, is full of electro-pop parlour hits in the Tasmanian fashion, and was largely self-produced in his home studio.
