Second Life is virtual world in which anyone can create their own character and live a "Second Life". Create your own character, including details such as how muscular the character should be, the nose shape, hair colour etc and then let them loose in the game world. There are currently over 100,000 inhabitants in the Second Life World.

Registration is needed, but is free. If you want to buy a house or a plot of land though, there is a premium to pay!
