Solo is een vriendelijke 34-jarige taxi-chauffeur in North Carolina, van Senegalese afkomst. Hij wordt door de 70-jarige blanke Amerikaan William ingehuurd om hem over twee weken naar een bergtop te rijden, waar William vervolgens van af zal springen en sterven. Solo weet William echter te overtuigen om tot die tijd zijn persoonlijke chauffeur te worden. Er ontwikkelt zich een bijzondere vriendschap waarin Solo hoopt, binnen die twee weken, William op andere gedachten te brengen.
